Evolutionary Psychology

... when Rational Choice Theory just isn't right wing enough.

I love EP partly because I like having some guide to predicting human behaviour according to certain rational rules (I'm sure many like rational choice theory for the same reason), but also - yes - because I am a conservative. But I would plead that it's only because certain rules of common sense have become politicised that EP does seem in any way right-wing. If the liberal-left didn't so often stake its positions on such extreme ideological ground, the statement of scientific principles would be seen more as the neutrality it is, not some sort of right-wing backlash. For example, evolutionary science certainly isn't left-wing merely because plenty of Christian fundamentalists deny it: it's just neutral science.

Whoops. That last line should read:

For example, evolutionary science certainly isn't *left-wing* merely because plenty of Christian fundamentalists deny it: it's just neutral science.
